Decomposition-based Integrated Optimal Electric Powertrain Design

This paper presents a decomposed co-design optimization framework for an electric vehicle powertrain equipped with Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). We jointly design the sizes of components and energy management strategy, considering dynamics transmission. Specifically, we divide resulting nonlinear problem into separate hierarchical subproblems leveraging concept Analytical Target Cascading (ATC). Furthermore, compare proposed decomposition-based strategy centralized approach, in which solve same problem, show that method presented this can be potential alternative to formulation solving large-scale, complex integrated plant control system design. Finally, performance using CVT on total-cost-of-ownership Fixed-Gear (FGT), is what commonly implemented current vehicles. Our results by optimizing transmission along yields lower consumption compared FGT.
